At over 12,000 square kilometres, Yorkshire is the largest county in England. Home to three National Parks, 11 National Nature Reserves and known as ‘God’s own country’ by the famously friendly and down-to-earth locals. The stunning natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales is matched by the charming historical cities and gorgeous villages.

North Yorkshire has a wealth of places to visit for all tastes from the pure natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales to its vibrant market towns and villages. This Yorkshire Dales National Park trip highlights some of the most picturesque places to visit in the region and makes for a stunning day out.

Visit a Harry Potter Film Location!

This trip includes a guided walk at Malham Cove -Malham Cove is a huge natural limestone cliff which was once a spectacular prehistoric waterfall. At the top of the cove is a fine limestone pavement – which provides a wonderful viewpoint over Malham and Malhamdale. This scenic spot was chosen for an iconic scene from the film ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1‘. You have to earn these views by climbing the 400 steps up! If you don’t fancy the climb, you can relax by the river and admire the beauty of the cove and the natural scenery all around.

From there we will visit Skipton for free time to enjoy a coffee or snacks. You can visit the quaint shops and cafes or take a stroll along the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

We will finish the day by visiting the beautiful landscaped grounds of Bolton Abbey where you can sit by the river or explore the ruins of the 12th century Abbey and if you’re brave enough – cross the river via the stepping stones!

variations on the trip

Sometimes things don’t always go to plan and British weather can be changeable. If the guides deem the area to be too flooded, icy or if there are extreme high winds or heavy rain we may offer the same walk but without the option to climb up to the limestone pavement as it would be slippy in icy conditions. We do believe in getting outside and enjoying the outdoors so if it’s simply raining, please come prepared as we will get wet (and have a great time doing so!).
